Can I use tap water to fill my barrel, or are there chemicals that my roses don't like in the tap water. I don't get enough rain water in Chelmsford and my roses are tiny, but they are clean. Can I have the best of both worlds, big and clean roses? Andrew, Chelmsford

You should be able to water your roses with tap water. There are only 2 issues really. If your soil pH is high and the pH of your tap water is high as well, then this could be a problem. Some growers save rain water and add half tap water to it if the pH of your water is high. Doctor Rose
